Student Guide Branding

This is an editorial design and photography for a student guide at the School for Visual Communication. It therefore has to be targeted at the students and has to be aesthetically pleasing.

The photography is unique and quite creative. Throughout the magazine/guide, there is no colour at all. The only colour that isn’t grayscale is the colour of the stock. The overall design is very stripped back and very clean. Maybe too clean. It seems to me that this is a bit too clinical for my liking, and I am after all, his target audience. The guide is very modern and contemporary and i’m sure it is very informative. It is creative and well designed, but I can’t help but think that it is too clean and clinical for  a student guide. I think that students would be attracted to it as a piece of design because of its simple nature and the pure cleanliness of the design. The photography of the magazine is quite abstract with the lack of colour and the double exposures, making this a very unique piece of design. I think that my group will be taking some inspiration and taking notice of the cleanliness and the simplicity of the design but I think this is stripped back a bit too far. I think we will use the idea, but not to extremes.
